Goose Island Flats Vacation Rentals

My wife Michele & I have stayed at Goose Island Flats three times in each of the 1BR cottages. The cottages are very well maintained, everything works. I have never stayed anywhere that supplied so many of the little things that are always needed when staying away from home. The cottage is an easy walk to the bay, surrounded by open grasslands and oak woods with a small lake 200 yards from the cottage. All these terrain features are attractive to Whooping Cranes I photographed some from the front porch. The Whooping Cranes land in the fields next to the cottage. I like staying in these little cabins the best of all places I’ve stayed in Rockport. They are pet friendly & excellent for birdwatching. We will stay again on our next trip to Rockport!

We loved our second year staying in the Whooping Crane. We have already booked 2027! It had everything we needed to cook ,sleep and relax. We enjoyed sitting on the deck to watch the sunrise over St. Charles Bay and all the birds coming and going flying right over the house we stayed in. We saw whooping cranes, sand hill cranes, rosette spoonbills, pelicans, herons and whistler ducks all from our deck. The location is excellent to go explore museums, wildlife refuge, excellent eating places, mansions, famous painted churches, one thousand year old oak tree, fishing and enjoy music events. Tim and Melissa are great! If you need anything they will take care of it immediately. Having them makes this place tops!

THE BEST location for viewing Whooping Cranes. During our 2-day visit, we were at three other locations where people go to see Whooping Cranes, but we ONLY saw them at Goose Island Flats. From OUR PORCH!! Hosts Tim and Melissa have high porch chairs, perfect for sitting with a cup of coffee and your binoculars or scope as you watch the whoopers in the field or flying overhead. Sweet location, lovely room, complete with galley kitchen where we made our breakfast every day, and even grilled steaks one night on the outdoor grill under the thatched roof where you can also play yard games. Goose Island Flats is reasonably priced and is a perfect coastal getaway anytime of year, and especially during Whooping Crane season. Goose Island Flats are a perfect place to homebase while doing wildlife photography and birding the area. You can listen to the Whooping and Sandhill cranes overhead and enjoy a cup of coffee on the deck while watching a colorful sunrise. The location can’t be beat. The cottage is well appointed with everything you will need for your stay, just bring your clothes and some food. Melissa and Tim have worked hard to ensure your stay is enjoyable and trouble free. Communication is first class. Melissa responds to questions quickly and genuinely cares about her guests. We actually had very few questions because they had thoughtfully placed a notebook in the cottage that already answered them. While the weather did not cooperate as we would have liked, the Hosts, Tim and Melissa Milligan were great. You will not find nicer people to rent from and will answer immediately should you need to call. The cottages are lovely. Everything needed for your stay is provided and the cottages are very comfortable. Add the Whoopers, Sandhills and other fowl flying over every day, what more could you ask for? We were there to photograph the birds and other wildlife. The first day was great and then the Artic front reached it's cold fingers into the area, with a lot of wind, so most photos were taken from the vehicle. A couple of tips, stand out on the back porch early in the morning for the fly over and you can get good BIF of the Cranes. I saw my first Black Belly Whistling Ducks flying over
