Fredonia Hotel

The beds and pillow situation rivals any 5 star hotel. The remodel is tasteful and the hotel is clean. Front desk staff were friendly and efficient. The only issue I had was room service. Fried shrimp arrived without the slaw and remoulade. There was no ketchup offered to dip the fries. After unpacking and noticing the omissions, I called down to no answer. It was 9:00 pm on the dot and room service closed. I was sorry I tipped on the check before I had a chance to review the order. Closing time is no excuse to drop the ball on quality control. What we received was delicious, but would have been better if served as described on the menu. It’s what we paid for, after all. Disappointing.

My husband came here for the Texas Forestry Association conference. No better place to hold this conference! As SFA alumni, this is a joy to come back to Nac! The hotel room was perfect for what little time we actually spent in it. The ballroom is excellent for dinners and speakers, and the side rooms were full of booths for exhibitors. Even as a spouse, I stayed busy. I was surprised, and kinda sad, that I didn't have free time to spend at the pool, which looks very inviting with several outdoor patio chairs/tables! It was so nice to stay in the hotel where the conference was. With my recent small handicap, I really appreciated the convenience of the elevator and not having a long walk to the ballroom. My husband did a lot of research and picked out a beautiful room for us to stay in for our anniversary. We chose the Fredonia. Not because we wanted to stay in Nacogdoches, but just because we wanted to stay in this hotel in that room. The room had a terrible smell and the longer we sat in there the more it made us feel nauseated. So we asked to be moved and they put us in a room that felt like a dungeon. And then they put us in another room that was a little bit nicer, but not as nice as the first one and it smelt really bad too. Another reviewer said it smelt like melted plastic and I guess that describes it pretty well. It was a very strong smell. They did not have any other good rooms to offer us. Since it is an historic hotel, built 70 years ago, the bathrooms are smaller than at modern hotels, feeling a bit cramped. Otherwise, the room was quiet and comfortable. Staff was friendly and attentive. Not enough onsite parking, so had to park across the side street several times, although was not an issue.
