Elk River Hotel

I wanted to like the Elk River Hotel, I really did. I wanted to support local business in Sutton while there on a family trip. I wanted to find a quaint “hidden gem.” Sadly, that was not to be. The actual hotel is a beautiful old building on the Elk River, but the main attraction for us were the “glamping rooms” in the hotel’s side yard, which are separate outdoor rooms under domes. They give the sense of camping out, but with the comforts of a hotel room. We were assured that they were heated, but the heating unit was small, so it was pretty cool for sleeping. I would suggest the domes during springlike weather. The beds were comfortable, but the sheets were stained. We needed more than the two towels given to us, since there was three of us. We had a wonderful stay. Though it was the off season Fransico went out of his way to make our stay perfect. He even went as far as cooking us dinner on our last night following my sisters funeral. We definitely will be back.

We had a group of 8 people, 4 couples staying. There were 4 rooms in the main house. We occupied 3 and 1 of our couples stayed in the carriage house. The house is beautiful but the cleanliness was less than desirable. There were stains on the towels and sheets. We had to request clean sheets, because there was hair all over the supposably clean sheets. Our toilet seat broke and did not flush. We were only staying 1 night, and they told us they couldn’t fix it till the next day. The rooms all had cobwebs and dust all over everything. Ceiling fanes were disgusting. The bar was very nice. The bar tender was pleasant and was excellent. The food was decent from the bar, better than expected. Quick look~ Pros: -Location is great, close to everything you might want to explore related to the Flatwoods monster. -Pet friendly Cons: -Staff was impossible to get ahold of. -Room had roaches and ladybugs. -Housekeeping was lacking. -My family ended up checking out early. My reservation was for the Snow room and it was for 2 adults and our dog. I called to confirm details about the room in the morning on 11/27 and never received a call back. Upon arrival around 6pm there were no staff at the hotel. I had to trek around the grounds searching for where the room was in the dark. The key to our room was left on the front desk in the main house/reception area with no instruction. The only notification I received about the reservation was that we had been "checked in" at 5:30, quick reminder
