Econo Lodge Inn & Suites Brooks - Louisville South

Purpose of stay: Couple traveling for a business meeting. Im pretty picky about hotels but when I came across this one I was just tired and picked the first thing I seen. Pros: Evening staff, very friendly. The lady who checked us in said they had a $100.00 cash deposit policy which wasn't listed on the booking site. We dont carry cash so we had only $45 between us and she accepted it to keep us from doing a potential 10 day hold on our cc. Morning staff, also friendly at check. Issued our refund and made small talk. Cons: Booking site said breakfast but we were told by staff they would only have coffee in the lobby but it is next door to a Waffle House. While the EconoLodge was cheap, it was definitely apparent as to why. The police were at the motel one night when we arrived. It is across from the truck stop and I wouldn't be surprised if it has a sketchy history. I was told AFTER my card was charged that the jet tub in the room does not work and when I asked about any sort of discount, was rudely asked if I just wanted to cancel my stay. - There were different paint swatches in the room and obvious repairs needed. - The front of the tub was falling out and you could see mold and water damage in the ceiling. - The door did not close fully and moved inside the locks. - The air conditioner was so loud and sounded half dead. - The bedding was ridiculously sparse: 3 limp pillows for 2 people, 2 thin sheets for a king size bed? Last year, I stayed here for one night while attending a funeral of a relative, based on a good stay I'd had here a few years prior. I recently had to attend another funeral and stayed here once again. I actually ended up in the same room I had in December 2022. The place has gone downhill from a year ago. I had to go back to the front desk to request towels and washcloths for the room. The floor was filthy dirty (especially the bathroom) and the toilet appeared to be dirty. Because I used a free Choice Privileges night, I guess I got my money's worth, but even with this being about the cheapest place to stay at this exit off I-65, I'm not sure I'd stay here again. Stayed for 3 days. It was the most affordable option in the area at the time. There were no bugs during my stay which is good. My room, 100, smelled heavily of cigarettes even though I chose the option of a smoke free room online. I went to the receptionist to see if I could change rooms, they said no. They did come over and sprayed some air freshener in the room. It didn't do much so I propped my door open with a trash can for a couple hours. The walls were very dirty in the bathroom. Large dusty brown smudges were in the most random places. The headboard to the bed had what looked to be the greasy outline of a person's face smushed into it and two hands on each side. Amusing but gross. Shower water pressure was very weak. It could have been just my room with the weak pressure.

Wasn't as clean as I might like. Sheets had stains. Bugs on the floor. Was told there was a continental breakfast...a few muffins and coffee. No juice no cereal.. nothing. Staff on evening shift when we checked in was very pleasant.
