Downtown LA Proper Hotel

The Proper Hotel was absolutely superb! The hotel was amazing and had wonderful character and history. The staff (particularly Vanessa) was outstanding— super friendly and responsive. She even showed us the architecturally unique Pool and Basketball suites on a private tour. The Cara Cara restaurant was gorgeous and the food was delicious. Rooftop restaurant and pool were highlights! Great location in DTLA. Highly recommended and we’ll be back!

Last week marked our 14th stay at The Proper Downtown Los Angeles. ||Occupying the former YWCA building, the hotel offers luxurious accommodations that incorporate original features from its past life. There's no mistaking this for your cookie-cutter Marriott: rooms are modern, well-appointed, and wonderfully funky. The Aesop toiletries are a particularly nice touch.||The food and beverage program is top-notch. Breakfast at Cabrillo quickly became a daily tradition, and Cara Cara —the rooftop restaurant —offers the perfect vantage point for lunch or cocktails. ||However, it's the personal service and genuine hospitality that keep us coming back. It's a solid option but definitely not qualified to be a 5 star hotel. The service is not that level . No turn down or thoughtful extras. Rooms are very small. I was alone and it was fine but I would not have been comfortable sharing the room with one other person. Gym is not lux , super basic with limited equipment. Food was good but I'd rather stay elsewhere and go eat there one evening.

DTLA Proper strikes the right balance between intimacy and luxury. It’s a beautifully decorated hotel: very clean, warm, seductive aesthetics. The service is top tier. The rooms are spotless. The welcome amenity was a nice touch. I would HIGHLY recommend staying at DTLA proper if you’re given the chance.
