Customer Reviews
Incredible small campground run by national parks service. This is boondocking sites, meaning there is no electric water or sewage hookup. There is a dump station, and a freshwater potable fill on your way in. A lot of the sites are small, predominantly due to the fact that this campground was built in the 1940s. It is incredibly quiet, good spacing between the sites, and the rangers and camp host were excellent. Verizon 2-3 bars, did not try T-Mobile.
Such a nice and welcoming place! Felt at ease spending the night with my dogs. Clean bathroom, well kept sites to pick from.
Cute and quiet campground. We stayed on the RV side even though we are tent camping. Only stayed 1 night but it was a pleasant experience. Only 4 or 5 other campers there so it was quiet. There is NO water or electricity here. They had a water spigot but the water wasn’t on. We had plenty of water and can run off our batteries with solar for a few days so we were good. Our neighbor had a generator and it was really quiet and they only ran it a few hours. Campground host were phenomenal with checking in to make sure you’re ok and enforcing the rules. There is a bathhouse with 2 flush toilets and sinks only NO showers 😩. A local told us there are showers over on the tent camping side. We didn’t investigate so I’m not sure. I will say we rode our bikes thru the tent campground area
I tent camped here 2 nights. July 2024. Due to road closure on both ends of this section of the parkway the campground was 99% empty. Very quiet. The bathrooms were spotless. Many varieties of sites from heavily wooded to open field. Good cell service in loops b and c. My new favorite camping spot. No showers. No camp store. Firewood $20 for 3 bundles. Go here if you want rustic quiet camping.
If you want solitude and easy access to trails, including the MST, Doughton Park is for you! Beautiful views, wildflowers and wildlife. The campground is well kept but could definitely use some update lovin as could most all our NPs. I was the only camper in the tent area midweek. There is a nice resturant that's open Thurs thru Sun 11 to 4 and a small gift shop.
