Very REMOTE place, road perfectly cared with signs and there’s no way to get there without the map 😅 I loved it there, there’s clean restrooms, toilet paper, soap! Haha and I loved also how the people that goes camping also respect the natural area, right now it is cold at night and windy, so consider extra jackets, blankets and heaters. There is also a weak WiFi signal which is good just in case an emergency comes. I’m just amazed, I love nature and for sure we will be back at summer 💖
Very remote and quiet. Limited services, but that just increases the natural experience. No wifi or cell service. Lovely vistas and open sky hiking. Lots of wildlife. Watch for cougars! Few trees.
The drive there is fairly long (~2,5 hours from Carlsbad) but the views on the lonely roads are totally worth it. Watch out for cattle and deers crossing, you are truly sharing the road with nature here! Makes the drive even more fun.||The campground itself wasn't very crowded at all during our stay. Nice staff in a little ranger station that also offers informations for hikes etc. They also got a fill up station for drinking water. ||The sites themselves are spacious, clean and come with a picnic table. ||This campground is a great starting point for hiking (we did the lost peak trail) and also if you want to visit Sitting Bulls Falls (about half an hour away, absolutely stunning as well+ nice opportunity to cool down from the Texan heat)
Pictures do not do it justice. Went here to tent camp and was so pleased with the clean bathroom and wash station. All the tent pads are relatively close together which was fine but could get loud if there are a lot of people. One small hike near the main camp site then a few more that are very strenuous so come prepared. Drive in was absolutely fabulous, very remote but had a great time.
We spent three nights there and we were the only folks there. birding at dog canyon in Guadalupe National Park. There is good birding and hiking
