We stayed in a rustic 1930s CCC cabin that featured a vintage fireplace and a heatpump. Dishes and very basic cookware were provided. The furniture was sturdy. The trails wind up and down about 300 feet of elevation between campgrounds, cabins, smallish camp store, the river/falls, swimming pool, and gift shop. Food can be purchased in the resturant at the lodge or at the canteen near the falls. There were few families present in peak leaf color season, the last week of October. They have the friendliest staff we've ever encountered in any park we've visited ... The cabins had a great playground. The restrooms were universally clean and tidy. While it looked like a great spot for black bears, we saw no signs. The seventy falls were spectacular.
I took my 6 year-old daughter here for her first real camping experience. The campsites were well maintained and the bathroom was very nice for a public campground. We hiked from the lodge down to the falls at night. The hike was challenging and a bit scary in the dark, but it was still manageable. Online reservations were very easy and everything went according to plan. I strongly recommend this park.
Absolutely awesome place to spend time with the family. Took my oldest 3 camping for 2 days out here. Hiked the Cumberland falls to dog slaughter falls and then to the lookout tower. Was an awesome experience. I highly suggest using the alltrails app if you can. All the hikes were marked on there and can keep you going the right way with the possible downed trees on some of the paths from recent storms. The campgrounds were awesome and they have showers as well as a small store close by. Water and power can be accessed as well in most of the tent areas. We will definitely be returning later this year to hike the eagle falls!
3 stars= 1 for affordability, 1 for peaceful natural wooded scenery and proximity to trails, 1 for cleanliness of grounds and bathrooms. There's multiple shower stalls. We had nice hot and strong water pressure. There's 2 family bathrooms with toilet/ shower combo &handicap accessible (it was a lifesaver with an infant). There's also a full men's and women's bathroom with several toilet stalls and a couple of showers as well. Travel Trailers BEWARE. We have a 19-foot TT with 1 slide out, and this campground would be a nightmare to navigate had it been full when we stayed there. We stayed at site 22 on the Ridge side (by the camp store). Thankfully the 2 sites directly across from us were empty so we were able make the tight turns to back in and pull out from our site upon arrival and dep
The absolutely most cozy cottage, with the extra surprise of having it decorated for Christmas . A beautiful 'snowman themed ' tree ( how could they know snowmen were my favorite?) Breakfast at the DuPont lodge was incredible. The lodge is so beautiful and decorated for Christmastime it looked amazing. Our server was wonderful, and having it be a full choice, cooked to order , all you can eat breakfast was a huge surprise, the biggest waffles and pancakes we've ever had (puts IHOP in 2nd place) 100x better than the continental breakfast we were expecting. Loved the menu choices. The food was incredibly delicious, shout out to the cook. This family vacation was made more magical by a surprise snowstorm , and seeing the falls was breathtakingly beautiful. Best family trip in many year
