Not a bad little primitive campsite. We did make the mistake of ariving in the dark and trying to find a spot was pretty tough. Once we found one it was nice. The stars on a new moon night were awesome. The bathrooms were very clean and the fire pit has a grate to cook on. The one weird this for us was how quiet it was really early in the night. At about 8pm you couldn't hear anyone talking. There were only a couple campfires going even though there was a good amount of campers. Quiet is nice but at that hour is was just odd. We will be back for sure in daylight to try another site.
Excellent place to camp if you're roughing it. Great restrooms. Always been extremely clean when I was there. Terrific hiking trails and views. Fire rings.
I normally stay at the Palm Canyon SP Campground in the valley, below; but, it was 45C there on 29June2025 , so I decided to drive back up the ridge, and stay in Culp Valley. Fantastic spot. I slept on a foam pad (no tent). Fabulous stars; incredible views; fantastic experience. Be mindful that certain areas are closed-off for habitat restoration. Respect the past in the present, that others in the future may equally enjoy this lovely Space :)
Really peaceful place. I saw a good bit of wildlife and had a constant breeze to accompany the awesome scenery. Best part, no other campers. The area was clean and the Cal parks folks drove thru several times while I was there. The road up, Montezuma Valley Rd, was super scenic and I loved my whole time in that area. The trails are well maintained and there is plenty of adventuring to do without even leaving the primitive campground.
Had an amazing time here, showed up and it was mostly empty so I got to choose from a lot of campsites. All the campsites have fire rings. It's very quiet and peaceful, I did see the park ranger drive by, making his rounds. The vaulted toilets were clean with plenty of toilet paper. The night sky was beautiful and we slept like babies. I would definitely recommend this place and I'll be coming back soon.
