Great Dark Sky park! The Comanche campground has electric/water sites with a picnic shelter and fire ring (although there is pretty much a permanent fire ban in this area, so bring a propane stove or fire ring if you need fire). There is information at the bath house about dark sky parks and the lights out/no exterior lighting policy, but not everyone is compliant. The sites are pretty close together so it’s great if everyone is thoughtful about their pets, noise and lights. If you don’t have great neighbors the loop at the end of the road is also a great place for stargazing. The bath house is clean and has flush toilets and showers, but no shower curtains so your stuff is going to get wet. So - great place for night skies and enough trails to keep you busy during the day for a couple
Very spacious sites and clean. Grass was mowed and kept up. I will say that the sites were very uneven, but it was a good stay. The night sky was awesome and the openness was perfect. The lake was murky and very muddy on the bottom, but it was beautiful in the whole scheme of things. I would stop again, but maybe not during the middle of summer.
Had site 25. It was a little uneven from side to side. Sites are decent size. There is no privacy at all. The picnic tables are covered and look pretty cool. Bonus that they are covered more on the side the sun sets. Not bad for an overnight stay. It was very quiet and peaceful. Bathroom lights up the sky though.
April 2019, the southern migratory birds were arriving. The Painted Bunting had arrived, & sang in the morning dawn... The wild flowers were covering the plains of Texas. This is a grand photo-op for birders & wildlife photographers. ☆☆☆☆☆
That was an adventure...it was 117 (47C) degrees when we got there...you feel like you are on top of the world...nice place tho. The gate staff are a little distant if you "aren't from around here..." Also, when we woke up, a neighbor had his AC unit swarmed by wasps...angry wasps...he couldn't get near to hook up to get out! When I went down to the main gate to report it and ask for help, they just shrugged and didn't say anything. Won't be back.
