I’ve stayed at multiple KOA locations and usually find them friendly and accommodating, which made this experience especially disappointing.|We arrived around 1:30pm after driving winding mountain roads from the East Asheville KOA with two small kids and our dog. I was extremely carsick and just needed a place to wash my face and lie down. Earlier that morning, I had called the Cherokee KOA and was told they would try to get us in early if possible, which made me feel reassured.|When we arrived, however, the only response we received — repeated multiple times — was, “I’m sorry, not until the cleaning crew leaves.” There was no attempt to check the status of our cabin, offer flexibility, or even suggest somewhere we could go to be more comfortable while we waited, despite our situation.|At
Overall I had a great experience and that's why I'm leaving a five-star review. Great staff, amazing location, and right on the water which is beautiful. I will make some comments below about the cabin I stayed in but if you don't care about that just ignore. I rented a cabin right on the river which was awesome for sure. Had my own porch and grill. But the cabin itself was filthy, I walked in and it smelled of dog and I could see that there was some leftover dog food ground into the floor. I also found some dog fur and the refrigerator wasn't very clean. I tried to call but it was after hours and since I was only staying two nights I decided to just live with it, I spent most of the day traveling the area so wasn't really a big deal. But hopefully for the future they clean the cabins a l
I was extremely disappointed with this “ vacation “ due to this KOA… my in-laws booked a cabin for us when we arrived we went to pay for it and get our key. Upon arrival we walk into a 10 x 10 box with jailhouse mattresses with a mini fridge and a small TV and a heater that does not work in 20° weather. The office closed and we were unable to get in touch with them when we tried to call numerous amount of times.. the next morning I went into the office to complain about our cabin being 20° (my husband used his work tool to get the temperature of the cabin to show them )when we were sleeping freezing, our door would not closing all of the way and spiders, dust, etc were all over the place … So we upgraded to a cabin to one that had a bathroom, shower kitchen, etc. for 500+ more dollars…. The campground came recommended from a friend. It is so clean and nice. The staff are all so friendly and helpful. We had an issue during our stay because of the extremely low temperatures. The campground had a waterline break. They were so quick to help and actually credit us back for one night even after we told them that they did not have to. They wanted to make sure that we enjoyed our stay and they felt so bad about the inconvenience. It was so refreshing to stay somewhere where we felt valued and taken care of. We have scheduled our next vacation in June returning to this site. Thank you, KOA.
When I reserved my cabin, I picked a specific one based on the photos provided on the website for the cabins that were available during the dates I’d selected. I did NOT get the one I selected! In addition the cabin was not clean! The shower curtain has black mold on it from not being properly laundered or not laundered at all. There was a red fingernail on the floor, a ball of fur in the windowsill, an even larger one on the entryway rug, and even more pushed into the corners of the bathtub and wall. The bathtub itself had a black line around the inside of it. The indoor heated pool and hot tub were broken. The river that the cabin was supposedly on was a dried up stream. I immediately went back to the office and was kindly greeted with… “do you want to cancel your reservation ?”. Mind yo
