Chena Lake Recreation Area is a beautiful spot and definitely a great place to view the Northern Lights—when the conditions are right. We visited recently and were excited based on the # Aurora Tracker, which showed excellent viewing conditions with clear skies. However, within just 30 minutes, the forecast flipped to low visibility and cloudy skies. I completely understand that weather in Alaska can be unpredictable, but it’s frustrating when a tool like the #AuroraTracker—which many travelers rely on to plan their nights—shifts so drastically without warning. If the data used for these forecasts is this unstable, then it’s worth revisiting the system or at least setting expectations more clearly. This is my favorite place in the entire world, the winds are super strong at night in the winter and can turn your hot car cold but it’s extremely peaceful, you can think without being interrupted and you can hike in the snow and feel alive with the wind on your skin and the silence

Beautiful park outside of Fairbanks. We're dry camping in the Lake Loop, which has large, spacious sites. Bring your own drinking water as there is none available here.

Our family favorite for summer time swimming and BBQs. Love to fish and roast some hot dogs and marshmallows. The views are gorgeous and we definitely love the beach like feel. I would recommend anyone who wants to relax, this is the place.

Nice area, wide campground roads for big rigs and only $20 a night. Dump station on way out but requires code to unlock. Sites large and pretty flat, dry camping.
