Caples Lake Resort

The dining room views were beautiful, the food was not just good, it was VERY good, and the service was wonderful. Thomas, Jasper and colleagues made us feel incredibly welcome. The halibut was not only delicious but plentiful. Eating dinner here was a real highlight.

This is a hard review to write because I know the owners are trying their best, and they were so incredibly kind. We spent three nights in the lodge (rooms above the restaurant, not the nearby cabins). The location is absolutely beautiful. We loved having access to the lake and nearby hiking. We had so much fun walking from our room to fishing and swimming. The room itself was clean and comfortable. As other reviews note, the bathroom situation is unusual in that they are across the hallway, but that was obvious on the website when booking so that's fine. There were two big cons for us. The first was the volume. Our room was above the lounge, and you could hear pretty much all conversations happening downstairs from 4P until 8P. It doesn't get any better than this! The beauty of Caples Lake speaks for itself. However, it takes Mike and Gwen , owners, to make the whole experience happen. They oversee every detail personally attending to all areas of the resort. You will be met with a welcoming smile and be able to stay in a lakeview, lodge room or cabin . Their hiring of 5* executive chefs puts the whole experience over the top. This is not a stop- by place, it's a destination. Remember Caples Lake Resort for weddings and family reunions as well. We passed the Caples Lake Resort many times over the years while camping in the area. It always looked pretty run down. This year I learned there were new owners revitalizing the resort and decided to check it out. My husband and I rented a cabin for 3 nights. It is rustic, which is comparable to most rustic cabins in the Sierra, BUT it was spotlessly clean and set up with a very functional space. The back deck offered a great view of the lake and the surroundings are beautiful. The owners are on the property and ready to answer questions and solve any problems. The whole vibe was great and we plan to return.||In addition, we had dinner one night at the restaurant. The server was a very warm, informal woman who answered our questions and took good care of us. The food was excellent. Again,

The cabin is clean and well stocked with the necessary cooking equipment, fridge, microwave, stove, coffee maker, toaster…. Bring your own food bedding, and towels. The location is stunning, the restaurant, upscale and delicious! Fantastic hiking nearby.
