Canal Campground

ACOE Canal Campground Grand Rivers, KY All I can say is this & the Land Between The Lakes Nat'l Rec Area Hillman Ferry campground (which is only about a few miles down the road) are the metropolis' of campgrounds. These are HUGE campgrounds with a LOT of sites. But they are also wildly popular to locals & travelers alike, so don't expect there will be space available. This is also one of those ACOE owned/maintained camps, so you can book online through recreation.gov, but also at the time of year we went (mid Sept) they also had attendants at the front gate who can take your payment & get you checked in. Need to change priorities. They have a guy blowing debris off the road while the bathrooms are filthy. It’s really nice except for bathroom situation. Quiet except for road blower with lots of wildlife. Lots of shady sites. Some sites are challenging and could use some work but lots of rather nice not crowded sites with space to enjoy your stay. Overall a good stay but they really need to address the bathroom issue. It would not take a lot of effort to make a big improvement.

Really enjoy this Core of Engineers campground. Need to make reservations through Recreation.gov. We stay at this campground at least once a year. Through the years we have stayed in different loops. Decided we like the view loop because we don't have to unhook our boat that we tow. The overflow parking for boats is not easy to get to, their boat launch is very steep. The sites are paved but you need levelers. Electric & water hook-ups.

Canal campground is at the northern end of the Land Between the Lakes. It's easy to get to, and the main roads are nice blacktop. However, most of the loop roads are narrow, rough, and twisty. There is a good choice of sites from primitive to full hookup. Some of the loop roads can be difficult for big rigs. Our stay was overall, very enjoyable.

We've camped here 3 times, a week at a time. Clean, beautiful, friendly. Has a beach, boat ramp, play structures, deer. It's reasonably priced, and includes water and electricity at each site. We bring out boat and have a blast!!!
