Buttonwood Motel & Restaurant

We booked this motel at the last minute and almost didn't stay. It seemed a bit rundown. After checking in, we went to room with some reservations. Door was a bit hard to close and my wife pinched her fingers between knob and new jamb. Room was dated, but clean. Bed seemed springy, but was comfy. AC worked, but was noisy at times. Bathroom had a drippy tub and shower curtain has some mold on it. However, shower was hot with great pressure. Toilet and vanity were new. Room had a fridge and TV, and a microwave which was a plus. Very quiet here and we slept good. Ice machine in office worked fine. We ate at their restaurant and were pleasantly surprised. Mostly locals and family of employees, but everyone was so friendly. Food was tasty, hot, and very inexpensive. Only drawback

being local we had breakfast only. 3 meals for $25! great service. very attentive & polite server this morning. Food is great value!! very clean & eager to help :)

I've been coming to the Buttonwood since the mid 1970s, when my dad used to take me up to Emporium for family reunions. The most recent visit was in July 2024, under the new owners. Yes, the rooms are dated. Yes, flies can get into the rooms. But the location is beautiful and I suspect upgrades under the new owners are coming. I am a sucker for "old fashioned" park and walk up to your room type rooms. I am so happy they are still open. And yes, the coffee shop that's on the property is probably the best breakfast in town.

The buttonwood used to be a fantastic spot for breakfast, but since the new owners took over, the food quality has taken a nosedive. The sausage gravy and biscuits are always cold, and you might only get a few bites before they’re lukewarm. They also overcook their bacon and burn the toast. The waitresses are great, and the place has a nice old-school vibe, but I’ve yet to find anything truly exceptional here.

Restaurant: Food is high end dinner class. Fries are home made quality, fresh coffee even at night, Club sandwich was impressive. Great portions, great service, great prices. Motel: Clean room, shower drains well with significant water pressure. The place is a little outdated but great for a motel in this area- and there isn't much around here. Could use some minor upgrades but totally acceptable. Would definitely stay here again.
