Buttercup Campground

It's a lot different than over by the washes. It was fun to play in. You can see the border wall and some other historical things there. Went on an off weekend. Had bathrooms and garbage. Definitely someplace to stop by and ride that's a little less crowded and more laid back.

Visited Buttercup Campground near the dunes today around noon. The place is wide open and beautiful in that quiet desert way. Bright sun, warm sand, and the dunes rising up like rolling waves. Even just stopping in for the day, you can feel the pull of the place. There’s plenty of room to walk, explore, or just stand still and look out at the horizon. The air has that dry, clean stillness that makes you slow down and breathe a little deeper. It’s the kind of spot where you can just exist for a while and let the desert do what it does. If you’re passing through and want to feel the land in a real way, Buttercup is worth the stop. Grateful Traveler’s Note 🌿

10/17/2025 spent the night here last night and it was absolutely amazing. Not a single person was here. Maybe the government shut down maybe I just got lucky. Went for a sunrise hike on the dunes. Got some great photos. I highly recommend stopping, but please pick up trash, even if it’s not yours 👍😊

Noting better than to enjoy God's beautiful backyard creation. Huge sandbox for all ages and all sports. ATV's, quads, dirt bikes, sleds, boogieboards and more. If you can think it, you can play it here at Buttercup. Camp fires, fireworks and fun all year round. Grilling, campers and picnics. This is the place to have a great time. I choose Buttercup dunes over Glamis just because its family and kid friendly.
