BORDER PLAZA HOTEL

Stayed for eight days while getting dental work done in Tijuana. This hotel is close to the TJ border, within five minutes walk. Its also extremely close to the trolley, such that I did not need a rental car during my stay, which saved a lot. There were several restaurants nearby which also was convenient. The hotel has been recently renovated and whoever did it, did a great job. If this hotel was more near downtown San Diego, it would be a $150 a night hotel. The wifi was a disappointment, however, the representative at check out did say that they had contracted to have it addressed. The negatives, were the proximity to the trolley, which caused some excessive noise due to a crossing arm bell nearby. Close to border but trolley does makes some noise. Bright overhead lights but the bedside lights don't work so it you just have these way too bright ceiling lights beaming down on you. Wanted to sit an do some online work but no chair at desk. I was not given a wifi password, just a key. Said they are available 24 hrs but called and called followed by going up to office but no one answered!

Service is okay, front office: For being a little bit lost about what room is ready and what is not very kind, price is overpriced for the location and noise from the train; but good price for how clean and recently remodeled rooms. I would say this is a 3 start hotel: Pros: clean, decent space, close to the border. Cons: overpriced, noisy, lack of training to the staff. Cost $120 with taxes ( $50 deposit for damage)

As others have mentioned, the incessant train bell disrupts your sleep, especially with paper thin walls. It’s also in a rough area. The only redeeming quality is proximity to the border. But just get a room in a safe, quiet area and Uber/Lyft/Train down to the border.

Brand new, beautiful rooms. Comfortable bed and a clean room. I enjoyed my stay. And on top of that, i loved the location
