Birch Lodge & Motel

My significant other and I went on a weekend getaway to the UP this past weekend, which landed us at the Birch Lodge! From the start of check in Jim was very kind. He immediately informed us about making a repair in our room earlier in the day and the room was beautifully decorated and very clean. Their cocktail bar and lounge had such a cozy vibe and a nice variety of drinks with a very warm and friendly bartender making them! We also got to meet Carol, who was very kind, and Jack, the cutest and sweetest lodge dog! If we could give 6/5 stars, we would. We will be recommend this gem in the UP to anyone traveling north!

My girlfriend and I took a trip north for a weekend in October to catch some fall colors, and to see the falls in Paradise. We were looking for a place even remotely close to stay. With few options left I stumbled across Birch Lodge and I am so glad I did. The atmosphere was very warm and cozy, it truly felt like home away from home. Jim was a phenomenal host. The rooms and lake front view was spectacular. Very clean. They even upgraded their peacock account so I could watch the Michigan game in the bar. Jim, thank you!

Positive: This was such a find! We know that accommodations in Michigan's UP can be .… sparse. You’re usually lucky to get 3 out of 5 stars. It’s just a remote area that caters to naturalists and I never expect bougie. This place.… completely amazing!! Go!! Negative: ""

My wife and I stayed in the Lodge for a weekend and absolutely loved it. The just (owner) and staff were very helpful and friendly. We loved the cleanliness and the decor. On-site evening bar was very cool. Although it was winter, you can't beat the location of being on a lake. We definitely will be returning.

Really cool historic property in a nice location with great hosts and cool details, but the recent renovations like the guest bathrooms need to be reviewed and fixed up. I really liked that atmosphere and the little historic touches, such as the working jukebox, 1910 piano, and the plenty of old photos on the walls. I had a great time at the property, but the bathroom sink faucet was a bit wonky, the wood under the shower sill was rotting, the exterior/windows need to be painted, the wall painting in my room was lazy, and the heating struggled to keep up with the winter weather. Breakfast was truly continental: breads, yoghurt, and oatmeal were the primary fare. The on-site bar was a nice place to catch the super bowl, as TVs are not in the rooms.
