Alamo Inn B&B, Gear & Tours

We stayed at the Alamo Inn for three nights as part of a guided birding trip and then stayed an additional night to spend time with a friend who lives in the area. The Inn has an authentic character and was a delightful change from the prepackaged experience of traditional hotels. If you have stayed in one Holiday Inn, you have stayed in a thousand of them. We were in the Pancho Villa room, which was spacious, comfortable and educational. The Inn is a delight, particularly for a birder, with a spectacular collection of birding books, gear, and artwork. Our group had a filling breakfast each day before we ventured out and the dining area was available for refreshments the rest of the time. We had a fantastic experience working with the Alamo Inn for a group trip. The rooms were spacious and comfortable, breakfast was excellent, and the staff went above and beyond to make everyone feel welcome. Truly a warm, friendly place that takes great care of its guests!

I was disappointed with my visit this time. I stayed here four years ago and was pleasantly surprised with my room in the Garden Suites since it was so inexpensive. The place seems to have gone downhill since then. The main building had a bad smell when I walked in and seemed run down. My apt was very old and shabby. There were ants and beetles running around in the kitchen and in the drawers. There was only Folgers coffee and no sugar. The curtains were stained and glasses not very clean. Definitely don’t recommend. This was # 104, maybe the other units were better. I checked in for 3 nights but stayed only one. I don’t understand why it gets such good reviews.

I cannot say enough good things about this place! Spent four nights there last week in one of the "Garden Rooms", my first time to stay. Absolutely stellar attention from Keith from the time I booked it until after I checked out, wonderful and friendly service from the staff, and an incredibly good value--the room rate (which is very reasonable to start with) included a self-serve breakfast AND "fixings" for lunch to take with us on our birding forays. They even had coolers available to use for the day if we needed! Keith has truly thought of everything. My room was spotlessly clean, quiet, comfortable, and well-stocked-- truly a home away from home. Highly recommend!

We had a great stay here after leaving an absolutely disastrous Air BnB early. If only we had known about Alamo Inn beforehand. We will definitely stay here again on future trips to the RGV. Many thanks to Keith, Eric and the rest of the staff.
