Yell Masonic Lodge Hall

This little building shares an important role in American history. If you have not heard of the Mountain Meadows Massacre, where 120 men, women, and children of the Baker–Fancher emigrant wagon train were murdered by Mormon settlers in Utah, you should learn about it. The victims were from farms in this vicinity and their kin live here today. The Mormons spared children under seven and farmed them out to nearby LDS families. Two years later, when most of the children were retrieved by the US Army and returned to relatives, they spent their first night home in this humble building. A few yards away stands a chilling memorial to the victims.
