Very nice place to camp but the sites are not very level and if your RV has slide outs some of the sites will not work. It would be helpful if the site description when making reservations included more details. Unfortunately we learned the hard way and are stuck in site 16 and cannot open our slide outs.
Great views of the reservoir. Rv pads are not very level, which can be a hassle. The layout of the park isn’t ideal for navigation in the dark while driving and has no walking paths. A decent hike from the lower end to the showers with several retaining walls to climb. Main issue was nonexistent communication from camp host. I booked two weeks and had to cancel for a family emergency and never had my calls or voicemail returned and was forced to just pay it.
This is our second time staying at this RV park; the first time was back in 2011. Getting into Heppner is not easy. The roads are narrow and winding, and pulling a trailer or RV can be a challenge. However, once you arrive it is GREAT -- especially if one is looking for a quite and tranquil space to camp for a few days. The RV park is apparently owned by the city of Heppner, but there is also an elderly couple on site who maintain the park, water the grass, collect the garbage, and assist one in checking in. We camped here in early August this year (2019) and were virtually alone in the park, although I suspect it fills up during hunting season in the Fall. The view out of our window on the Willow Creek Reservoir was beautiful in its own rugged and austere way.
All trash cans have been full for the last 2 days. The fire rings are on wrong side of site. They should be on same side as picnic tables. And with only 3 of 24 RV sites in use kids run us off our evening fishing by throwing rocks even after they were asked to stop. While there parents watched the whole time. If it wasn't so late I asks for a refund. But there no one here to asks. Fishing was good but I won't come back
Great little spot right over the reservoir. It's a tiered set up so all the spots have a view.
