Customer Reviews
I have camped at WhiteCaps many times, at least twenty times I think and it has always been a good experience. The current owners have made wonderful improvements and the place is well maintained, always clean and I highly recommend it for singles, couples, families and kids. Its proximity to the lake, the nearby mountain trails and the Kingdom Bike Trails is convenient. The hikes are not overly challenging so perfect for families who just want to get outside and fir the athletically inclined the bike trails are great. The major draw for me is Lake Willoughby. The pristine spring fed lake is just a stunning place. There are three beaches, one sbout 5 miles north, one directly across from the campground, where you have easy access with WhitCaps rental canoes and kayaks. Then there is a
We stay at this campsite once or twice every year (and always once in the fall), it's our favorite in the whole State! The location is stunning, we walk to the lake and to the Mt Pisgah trailhead, no need to drive anywhere all weekend which feels truly relaxing. The owners are so welcoming and their coffee and breakfast sandwiches are delicious, and they have kayak, SUP, etc rentals right on site. The bathrooms are a huge perk, they are modern, clean bathrooms with hot showers. Can't say enough good things about White Caps Campground!
The good: clean restrooms and showers. Across from the lake. The bad: very small sites on top of one another. The UT sites are up a very steep incline. My site, UT5, was sloped with tree roots and rocks all over. No level spot for a tent. Very very close to the road, so noisy. I go camping for peace and quiet. Got the worst 3 nights sleep of my life and left, 2 days early. No peace nor quiet was to be found here.
We LOVE this place. Although the sites are close together, the location by Willoughby Lake is gorgeous. Owners Michelle and Eric and the staff are welcoming and go out of their way to help. The campground and bathrooms are clean. The Camp Store has everything from breakfast sandwiches to camp supplies to games to pizza to beach towels, and lots in-between. Although there's no Internet or phone service, you can get connected at the Store. There's a mini-library, too, for your reading pleasure. ||And we always make some new friends there! People from all over the U.S. and Canada hike, swim, paddle, and soak in the sunshine, and it's fun to chat with them.||We enjoy our time there and we'll be back again.||Thank you, Michelle and Eric, for a wonderful vacation!
Whitecaps campground is most definitely a unique and beautiful spot to visit. The view from the “front row“ campsites is breathtaking, looking north up the lake, which is surrounded by steep mountains on either side. This is a family run business whose owners are caring, kind, and totally invested in creating a very welcoming Camping opportunity to all people. The crystal clear lake is a stones throw away from the campground, there are kayaks and paddle boards to rent, the camp store has both hot and cold food on their menu, and there are lots of hiking trails nearby. We will most definitely be back in the future!
