Customer Reviews
Virginia Lakes Resort is in a stunning location, surrounded by incredible natural beauty and offering access to hiking trails and fishing spots. However, the overall experience at the resort falls short of expectations due to significant issues with cleanliness and customer service.||||This past summer, our small family spent a week at the resort, enjoying the outdoor activities the area has to offer. Unfortunately, our interactions with Carolyn were disappointing. On multiple occasions, we encountered unprofessional and rude responses when seeking assistance or making inquiries. Additionally, we witnessed her publicly reprimanding an employee in front of guests.||||The cabins are priced at a premium, yet they do not reflect even a basic level of service or attention to sanitation. Amazing stay. Great view. Friendly staff. It is up in the mountains at a very high level so you have to expect wildlife including Chipmunks and even occasional mice and bears. Staff was friendly and help set up traps when needed but there's no way you can keep mice out of places like this as long as you cover your food and keep it in the refrigerator and keep it sealed you will have no problems. The views are incredible we went for some incredible hikes in the area. Deer and a couple bears walked around freely every night which was really cool entertainment. No cell phone service so leave your worries at home. This type of place is not for everyone so you need to be able to expect small issues with 100-year-old place. Staff was very friendly when we had a concern including how to
This place is not worth going to...I've been here four times over twenty years and each time the owners (who run the place) have become more and more rude towards guests. And you might think, 'So what? Who cares?' But it shows in the old, run-down cabins that have mold in the shower, mice poop in the bedding, broken oven and overall 'I don't care' attitude that you get for your money. They also tack-on extra charges for use of towels and similar things you'd think would be included. There are many other great lodges in the eastern Sierra with friendly, caring owners/managers who will make your vacation pleasant and enjoyable. This is NOT the place to go anymore.
I have been to this lodge several times over fifteen years. The location is very good for hiking and fishing. And it used to be a friendly enough place to go and enjoy a piece of pie, spend a week to relax.|However—and this is a big ‘however’—the property now has become quite dated and cabins very out of date. They probably have not been updated for 50 years (truly). This would be OK but the bathroom shower appeared to have mold on the walls, and the bedding had old stains! Could have just been our cabin (cabin 1) but not so sure…|Also, don’t expect the owners to be affable, friendly or helpful. It seems they are sick and tired of their time as owners and make their guests feel like unwelcome visitors!|So if you go, don’t expect much except a lot of rules telling you the things you can’t
I am updating a review I wrote a few months back because I felt that I gave this place too high a review, especially in light of the rude behavior of the owners. ||||Just to share, I am a seasoned (very) traveler in both high-end and camping-type lodges. Generally, I find reasons to enjoy the place, and I don't harp on little problems.||||I've even stayed here a few times because the location is great for hiking and fishing.||||However, this place, Virginia Lakes Resort is really bad now. Why?||||Because the current owners (they've owned the property for 50 years), are sick and tired of their guests. They are downright rude to guests, they yell at their workers in front of guests, and they will simply ignore you until you raise your voice.||||Also they will tack-on extra charges which make
