My week-long stay at Under-the-Stars was fantastic! Rod & Kathleen, the owners, were so kind, warm, and enthusiastic. The atmosphere was wonderful -- quiet, fun, and serene. The setting was amazing: wildlife everywhere, the beautiful river, white cliffs, and the clean & well-maintained grounds!! I'll most definitely be back!!!
Over all it’s a nice campground. Each group of sites has a port a potty, they were clean. Sites are very close together. Our neighbor a couple sites down ran a generator all day until quiet hours so that was annoying to listen to. The shower house is in the Rec room 2 shower stalls in each men’s/womans (free when I was there). Didn’t do a river trip because I thought $30/person just for the shuttle was a bit much when you have your own equipment. They also charge $5/dog for “insurance “. Picnic tables could use updating, ours was very rotten. Also watch for ground hornets! I saw 2 holes full of them in one of the campsite areas.
We used Chimney Rock under the Stars Campground & canoe outfitter for a day float trip. We put in at Plymouth Rock and asked to take out at Bluffington bridge, which was about a 13 mile float. |Normally the floats end at Chimney Rock Campground, but the breath-taking view of the bluffs are in that additional 4 miles from Chimney Rock to Bluffington Bridge. |It was a slow weekday. We asked if we could pay an additional fee to be picked up at that location. The owner was very flexible and reasonable with the fee. |If you do take out at Bluffington bridge, before look at the access first. The take-out is literally some grass pushed down and a 2-3’ wide gravel path up the bank to a parking lot. It’s extremely easy to miss. |The campground is really nice. They had baby goats & miniat
We aren't avid campers, so without gear to bring we opted to try one of the glamping caravans (#59). It was sweet, though nearly too small for my 5'10'' partner. Also, while a charging brick was provided it didn't work. Due to our checking in after 7p on Saturday and no staff on Sundays & Mondays, we couldn't get assistance with it. Not a huge deal in the end. The rec room was cozy and had plenty of fun games. The general store within had common camping items at a reasonable prices. However, the night sky's view from the meadow was spectacular and the grounds are very well kept.
We had the most peaceful and relaxing weekend at Chimney Rock Campground! The facilities were clean and the staff were extremely friendly and accommodating. The canoe float was fantastic! We can’t wait to visit again soon.
