Travelers Motel

My spouse and I were among many local folks trying to endure the extensive power outage during the recent intense snow and windstorm. We live on Portage Lake in an area where virtually all of our neighbors are seasonal. Since we do not have a generator, potentially 24-48 hours without heat wasn't doable. We contacted Mariada at Travelers Motel, which had power. She arranged a nice room for us, and, when we realized we could not access our vehicle in the garage, she came over and gave us a ride to the Motel. When we arrived, we found a comfortable path through the deep snow (the person plowing the parking lot had not arrived yet). Her extra effort and kindness allowed us to ride out the storm in comfort. We are on a road trip through MI and selected this Motel online weeks ago, based on the great reviews and photos. To say we were not disappointed is an understatement. This was the most simple, retro, clean and relaxing motel we’ve ever stayed at. The little amenities were great- the outlet “cube” was on each nightstand, to the ice waiting for us in the fridge, the normal coffee maker (not a keurig). The brick walls, the color combos, all of it. The owner Mariana was very thorough with all communication to assure our stay was great! Will definitely stay again if in the area!

This hotel has recently been redone and what the owner has done is incredible! It's cozy, clean and in the perfect location. Mariada went out of her way to make sure everything was satisfactory. My kids and I stayed for the weekend and were able to hit up quite a bit of the coast from here but loved coming back to the quiet small town to end the day. A walk to the Blue Slipper is worth it for dinner and Lake and Latte for a great breakfast and coffee. Would definitely recommend adding this motel to your trip if you're in the area!

The room was clean and had everything we needed. They had extra fuzzy blankets and dark towels for my wives makeup. The shower was hot and roomy with a big shower head. Beds were soft. Was close to everything we wanted to explore up that way. Owner was friendly and responded promptly. We will stay here again for sure!

In a word...WOW! My wife stayed here (room 102) the night of October 4, 2025 and were blown away by how cool this place is. Located in Onekema, Michigan, the motel is a short walk to Portage Lake and the Blue Slipper bar, and it is centrally located for Left Peeping season in West Michigan. The owner was incredibly responsive, the service was great and the rooms - and the motel overall - have a super-cool retro vibe you won't find most places. The motel underwent a full makeover from top to bottom and pride of ownership shows throughout. The mattress, pillows, and linens all appeared to be new and the room was absolutely spotless! The furnishings, lamps and even the mini fridge continue the retro vibe as do the table and steel chairs outside every room. In short, we loved Travelers Motel a
