Nice short trail through the woods, over a small stream, and following the Iowa river. Main trail merges next to hwy s56 to take you to Pine Lake State park (trail uses a widened paved shoulder on s56. You can access the trail in Steamboat Rock by the town sign (facing west) on D35 or the marked entrance off s56. The main trail is handicap accessible (paved) the gravel spur that comes off just south of the cabins goes to the river and the actual face of the tower rock. It is NOT handicap accessible. The rail bed spur at the D35 entrance runs through town for a short distance, the other direction will eventually go to Marshall town.

My family has stayed at these cabins several times. My brother and I rent both cabins and have one family per cabin. The kids can play outside, fish at the river, explore the rock wall, creek walk, and hike the trails. In the winter, we have fun sledding there as well. It's a great break from the noise of the city. Because they have air and heat, these cabins work any time of year that our family decides to spend a weekend together. We look forward to continuing to use them.

We stayed in a cabin, and hiked around near the river and other nearby places. The cabins are absolutely adorable and were just the right size for our family of 5. We loved everything about our stay and can't wait to come back again someday.

Nice county Park. If one drives all the way to the end and walk down to the river you will see the sandstone outcrop. Many people have tagged the stone through the years with some dates going back a hundred years or more.

Book these Cabins at your own Risk!! There is a nonsense policy where once you book the cabin, you cannot, under any circumstance or emergency reschedule your reservation. Click the wrong date? Too Bad! Mother died? Too Bad! Important work meeting come up you can't miss? Too Bad! We tried to reschedule (not cancel!) our reservation 60+ days out - and they flatly refused to work with us. Even in the face of losing the business of regular renters (6 nights a year). We will never book here again. I recommend you do not either. Look up the Pine Lake cabins. They are just as nice, only a few miles away, and will work with you.
