Totten Trail Inn

I get to visit this hidden gem of a bed and breakfast this summer with my husband and baby and wish we could have stayed in here. We visited the Fort in the daytime and saw this place. This place is located inside a Fort. For history lovers, this would be an opportunity for you to stay inside a Fort full of history. After day time visiting hours, they said you get to have the Fort grounds by yourselves which makes it more interesting experience. It is very well maintained and also while you are here, it is in proximity to White Horse Hill National Game preserve which you can visit as well and may see some buffaloes, do some bird watching and see the cute prairie dogs in the prairie dog village. The inn is located on the historic Fort Totten site. If you’re interested in history, you can’t pass up this experience! The building is beautifully restored and decorated, with many photos and things posted all around the place with write-ups about the historical significance. Our room (Horne) was comfortable and well decorated. It was very peaceful and quiet to sleep. The bathroom had modern amenities but retained an historical character. The common areas were cozy, and we enjoyed some wine in the parlor. We were able to walk the historic grounds at night with no one else there but the inn’s guests. There is access to a full kitchen if you need it. The woman who checked us in was so kind and helpful and gave us recommendations for food for dinner. It was a truly memorable experience. We

Such a beautiful place. We visited the historic site during the afternoon and staying at the Inn which is right on the grounds made our visit extra special. The Inn itself has so much history and each room is exquisitely decorated with historical and antique artifacts. This is a hidden gem; we were the only ones staying there that night, so we were able to explore all the rooms and relaxed in the reading room and game room upstairs. The innkeeper, Sherry, was very friendly and helpful. A nice continental breakfast was provided in the morning. North Dakota needs to get the word out so that more people discover this lovely, unique place!

What a special place. I was shocked to have it all to myself, aside from the very kind innkeeper. Big 10-room old lieutenants housing building inside the historic fort, lovingly restored to decor of the period by community members. Amazing historic artifacts, all over the inn! I slept so well - it was exceptionally quiet and the room and bed so comfy. I would recommend to anyone to stay here. My one critique is that I wish that the painful history of the Indian boarding school were acknowledged more in the history displayed in the inn. I very much encourage all guests to read up on that history in the exhibits in the other buildings, and do more research online to learn the full stories.

We stayed about a month ago. It was wonderful. It was like stepping back into history with air conditioning and modern plumbing. We were the only ones stay at the the inn that night and the innkeeper let us explore all the rooms. Each room has a different theme. Did I say how great the innkeeper was? She was great. I would like to stay there again.
