We had a great stay at the Tidewater. Location was beautiful and we could walk to most places we needed to get to, restaurants and shops. The room and amenities were great. We had plenty of space in our room. We also had a kitchen which we did make use of. Breakfast was as advertised. Would absolutely stay there again. My 4 stars for service was simply because the owner was off island so several times we went to the office with a question, there was no one there. A note to high demanding clientele: this is a small island hotel. This is not a big city place with the latest amenities, full of technology, and a huge staff. Mellow out and relax. Being demanding will get you disliked.
My wife and I were looking forward to seeing Vinalhaven and The Tidewater - we were disappointed. The hotel promised a shuttle pickup at the ferry terminal - we arrive and there is no one there to pick us up - when we get to the hotel and inquire about what happened to the shuttle, we are told there is no shuttle. The room itself needs major refurbishment in all respects. The common area/breakfast room was a mess and the outdoor seating area unwelcoming. The only positive was the unique setting on top of constantly flowing water plus a wonderful harbor view. When considering whether or not to come to the Tidewater, I read the TripAdvisor reviews - I recall one review being very negative - I thought that was an outlier - it wasn't. One piece of advice, if you still intend to visit Vi
Amazing one of a kind experience! How many rooms in this world sit right on top of a raging water tidal flow? Crazy in a GREAT WAY!!! We had the Mill Race room w full kitchen that sits directly on top of the rapids as high tide rushes out to sea below you. Friendly staff will obtain your line spot for the return ferry on your check out day. Pro Tip: Don’t come to Vinalhaven without your car: too many great hiking spots (go to Vinalhaven Land Trust website for detailed trail maps of each site) without your own transportation. Get in line 2 hours before the outgoing ferry, park and then go have breakfast two blocks away. As mentioned earlier, the Tidewater staff will secure your return “line number”. Enjoy one of the most unique stays you’ll ever experience!
Five stars across the board. First off, Vinalhaven is a cute little island off of Rockland Maine, accessible by maine state ferry. Everything (mostly) on Vinalhaven is walking distance from the ferry, including the hotel. You don't necessarily need a car but if you want to see the whole island it's definitely recommended. The quarry is a bit away and so is the lighthouse. Where the hotel is located you can walk to most things. The general store is across the road, there is a camden national bank down the road, a candy shop, a year round pizza place and a seasonal small sit down restaurant and other various shops. The hotel is directly on the water. When you park your car, most of the rooms are near your vehicle and is also ten seconds from the main office. Very convenient. If you need ice
Great place to stay with unbeatable views! It was perfect and easily accessible to anything on the island. We even got shuttle rides to places farther away. Rooms and beds were comfy, and breakfast was good with dairy-free and gluten-free options, which was nice. The owner was so friendly and helpful.
