The San Luis Inn Hotel

Pretty basic room but I'm still giving it 5 stars because it was all I needed as a basecamp for climbing Culebra Peak. This place is only 15 minutes from the trailhead and they don't charge the outrageous prices of the resort towns so it wasn't a hard sell to come have a heated room with indoor plumbing vs a very cold night of car camping. Bathroom was pretty tiny but fully functional. Room overall had plenty of space. Beds were this type of memory foam that at first feels super stiff but then you slowly sink down into it. Friendly and helpful service at the front desk.

Place was quite clean. That said, the cons:||No usual in-room amenities. No microwave, no coffee maker, no mini fridge. Rooms are quite spartan & lack any sort of views...or character. Bed was a bit saggy. Kinda weird that they completely prohibit alcohol in the rooms--I'm not a drinker so that wasn't a problem, but seems a bit stodgy. Rate was definitely high for what the place delivers. ||Pros: As mentioned, quite clean. Staff (who are not around much) seem pleasant enough. There is coffee & a microwave in the lobby. They do offer free snacks in coffee area in the morning, but it's not tempting, at least for me.||I'd give it a 2.5 overall, but am rounding up.

Charming, clean, and full of small-town hospitality! The friendly desk staff make you feel right at home. Complimentary coffee, snacks, and toiletries (not the tiny hotel kind!) are a nice touch, and I love their old-fashioned honor system for drinks and frozen meals. Bathrooms are small but fine, and I do wish there was a fridge for my insulin. Bring your own pillow if you like them fluffy. Overall—a delightful stay, and I’d definitely stay again.

This was a very pleasant stay. Rooms are large and very clean. We had an issue with our key and staff was very prompt in correcting the problem. I would definitely recommend staying here.

Spotless rooms in the center of town. An excellent stopping point if you need one. Only quirk is that the front desk is often unstaffed but folks show up quickly after a phone call.
