The Prairie Inn

I'm glad I stopped. Wonderful mom and pop establishment. Just like the old days. It's out away from the hustle and bustle of the city. The owners were super friendly. It was just the place I needed.

I have been driving past the Prairie Inn for 10 years and not thinking much of it, mostly because I never had a reason to stay in Fairfield. This year and in the future I will have a reason, so I decided to check it out a couple days ago. Looking at it while driving by on the highway is not the best way to judge. When you park by the entrance , you can see that the place is well built and some care was taken in doing it right. Walking through the doors into the lobby, I was blown away by how nice it was as it compared favorably to the nicest Best Westerns I have stayed at. The room was rather large with a very comfortable king bed and a couch for watching TV or reading. Bathroom was clean with tub/shower--so about what you would expect. My sons wedding party and in-laws stayed there and were made to feel like a burden. No eating in the hotel rooms? No taking ice from an overloaded ice machine? I was told to use the grocery store ice because it was colder. ??? They accused us of smoking (no one smokes anything) signed a waiver not to do anything illegal, and that isn’t all. They complained (owners) about wanting to sell the hotel the entire time. We are a long time local family in Fairfield. Our guests had to change into their wedding clothes at the coffee shop because the owner would not accommodate their own guest an hour early. Do not stay here, unless they get new owners or managers. We will never use this hotel again for any of our activities.

Was denied service after showing my medical need for a service animal and after showing them my doctors note. They are California transplants and have a cat in their office. Rude and not according to law. They asked specific information that I should not have dilvulged. They insisted on charging for rooms after refusing service. Don’t have the time or energy for this kind of people. Pretty sure any lawyer would have a hay day in this situation. Plus their sign says check in at 4 had to wait until 5 pm to be denied service . They are not from here and it shows. A pity they stay booked and don’t care about the customer.

These owners are the best! You'll never find a more engaged motel owner that treats you like family. Great breakfasts in the morning, comfy beds, and great rates. Our go to spot for Soldier Mountain adventures in the winter! Staying awhile? Ask them to make their baked oatmeal! It's amazing.
