The New Kent Ordinary, James Armistead Lafayette Cottage and the Martin House

We rented all the buildings for our family to stay the last weekend in August 2025. Our son was getting married nearby and The Ordinary was a wonderful place for us all to hang out and be together. We hosted the Rehearsal Dinner in the tavern which was so special and beautiful and enjoyed by all. The Groom and Groomsmen stayed in the Lafayette house Friday night before the big day! They enjoyed playing Croquet and Cornhole and building a bonfire in the firepit. Those of us who stayed in the Ordinary above the tavern loved it! We enjoyed relaxing in the sitting room talking at night. It was nice each bedroom had it's own bathroom and the beds were very comfortable. We would highly recommend. Pamela was VERY helpful and thoughtful!

A week to remember. Peaceful mornings, drinking hot tea on the back balcony… watching the horse in the back field. Breezy evenings, rocking on the front porch… watching the moon rise over the New Kent County Courtyard. Sipping on fine wine, eating home cooked meals, in the Tavern… with soft music playing in the background. All the colors and decor come alive with the sun each morning… and soothe your soul, with gorgeous lighting in every room and hallway, throughout the nights. Sit quietly… look around… listen… breathe it in… it’s history… and it feels so good.

The place was beautiful and the bed was super comfortable! I had everything I needed as well as a great view of the horse pasture!

This place is a part of history and has been lovingly restored to its near original state. It has many period pieces and is beautifully decorated. The grounds are meticulously kept and even has horses out back! I chose to have my wedding here for all of these reasons. It was a very small family event. I was not disappointed. We stayed in the Ordinary and the two cottages. The beds were incredibly comfortable, and the bathrooms were so nice and plentiful, one for every room and then public ones on every floor. Pam, the property manager, was so nice to work with and knows everything about the whole area. It was absolutely perfect.

I stayed in the Martin House which was absolutely beautiful and full of that history feel! I loved the back yard it was so big and the cool barn out back was placed perfectly! If you’re looking for a country feel and a comfy place to stay with your family this is it! Just be aware this isn’t much close by.
