The Lodge Tulelake

Renovation is skin deep. No one there when I arrived with an afvanced reservation at about 4pm. Room was cold, (January stay,) and heater was woefully ineffective. No hand soap in dispenser and it fell off the wall when I tried to use it. There are dogs inhumanely kept in a dilapidated trailer at the back of the property that barked all night. Grounds are messy and unkempt. I was charged above what was advertised on motels.com and a room deposit of $100, which was to be refunded if I left the card key behind and the room in order. I did. I had to threaten Adrian, the manager with calls to the police and BBB to get my deposit back and he only refunded a portion of the deposit saying I had a dog in the room, which I did. This was the most disgusting hotel room I’ve ever stayed in. There were flies everywhere. Not just a few. At least a dozen. Not to mention the 3 foot spider web above the door. None of the sheets were washed. I was in a pinch. And the owner/manager was nice. But never. Never stay here. Especially not for the $90+ they charge.

I booked a room here for a hunting trip on booking.com. when I arrived at 5pm there was no one to check us in. A note was on the counter saying will return shortly. I waited for over 1 hour before someone arrived. Then they said I had to pay a $100 security deposit which I would definitely get back. When I checked my account they took $117 dollars out of my account which to this day I have never got back. They never answer there phone and will never return my call.The room was filthy.. and there wasn't even a shower curtain on the shower. If you are smart you will run away from this motel as fast as you can and don't look back.

Pleasantly surprised by the nicely renovated room. Both the queen bed and the foldout bed were exceptionally comfortable—although you do have to ask for extra bedding if you use the foldout bed. The shower was powerful and clean, my only nitpick is that the towels are a bit worn but hey this is a small rode side motel in rural NorCal. Jack, the manager, was responsive and helpful. His small dogs were playful and my kids loved them. This isn’t an international chain but it is safe, clean, and comfortable.

I’m writing this as a warning to others. You may think there are only a few people overreacting or had bad experiences but I think there are some people who just didn’t notice how dirty this motel is. It’s newly renovated, looks that way too but when we got there late at night we noticed the pillow were DIRTY and had other peoples hair on them. My husband asked for me to check the bed, we lifted the mattress and between the box spring it was INFESTED. I’ve never experienced this in my life. The manager there asked us to show him then offered us a different room and same thing. I’m not sure if this is normal for the area or what. We ended up fleeing the scene and driving 2 more hours to get a new hotel. The tiny dog there also was able to pee all over my vehicle in the short time we were th
