The Lodge at Hocking College

I stopped in with my daughter and Mom after taking my daughter to explore Hocking College. We love visiting state parks and the lodge was just renovated in 2022. The restaurant is great and it views are gorgeous. We took shelter from a thunder storm and ended up joining in on some of their activities. Gracie was the absolute sweetest, we made trail mix with her, bracelets, and then explored the lodge with a scavenger hunt paper she gave us. It was so much fun and we enjoyed it! The service in the dining are was great, we had the garlic cheese curds to start. I had a the southwest black bean burger, my daughter had fettachni alfredo and my mom got the hot honey chicken sandwich. The food was fantastic and we enjoyed our lunch.

tl;dr: Excellent experience at the Lodge at Hocking College! Had an overnight stay while visiting Athens, and found this hidden gem. This lodge is run by hospitality students at Hocking College, like the nearby Rhapsody restaurant, and I will attest they are on the path to success. The Lodge is easily reached off 33, with only one light to content with on the way. Check-in was easy and the attendant was friendly, cheerful, and helpful. My room was not quite ready, so they quickly assigned me another and I was on my way to meet friends. Coming back late, there were no issues with the keycard access and I found my room easily. The rooms are nice and clean. Shower is nice. Beds are comfortable. The pillows are AWFUL : ( My biggest complaint is how thin the walls are. We could clearly hear our neighbors conversations and even when they coughed. The staff is friendly. The lobby is lovely. The breakfast is very limited and not frequently restocked.

This is a bare bones lodge. No pool, etc…. Breakfast was subpar….no toast, bagels, yogurt, fruit, etc…. They had waffles and cereal and oatmeal but no bowls. The staff was nice but knew nothing. We wanted to watch the big Ohio State game but our tv didn’t work and front desk knew NOTHING about how to work it. She didn’t offer suggestions besides basically shrugging her shoulders. We asked for meal suggestions and she had not eaten at them to give us any feedback. Location was different. It was literally back by a culinary school building but not walking distance to anything. When we left it was very slick outside and nothing had had salt put on it making it very hard to walk across the icy parking lot to our car. Will not return.

The decor was nice. The walk in shower was nice, but need more hooks in bathroom to hang clothes on. The pull out couch sleeper was utterly disgusting and filthy! The patio door might as well been a screen door as it leaked cold air like a sieve. The upstairs bed squeaked every tiny move I made. The breakfast choices were non existent. Nothing hot to eat at all. No juices. No pastries. No waffle mix available for the lonely waffle maker sitting on the counter.
