The Chestnut Inn

I recently had the opportunity to take my family to the Chestnut Inn for Thanksgiving dinner. The environment is first class - tasteful, comfortable, historic, charming, etc. It was my first visit, but certainly not my last. Lakeside dining adds to the experience. The food was good. I thought the drinks a bit pricey - (Not a drinker myself, so I am not certain what one would normally pay, but $15 for a glass of wine and $19 for a cocktail seemed pricey for the area). Overall the food was well prepared and delicious. It was a buffet which allowed for generous self served portions. The only really criticism - one might expect when paying a premium price for a meal and an elegant facility that the appearance of the staff would be more professional. We reserved and paid for a Deluxe room with lake view at least 6 days before arriving. We were given a room facing the back of the building with a view of peeling paint and a roof. The front desk did not even attempt to apologize. (This was reserved yesterday. NOT). Mildew smelling blankets, pillows. Dirty towel and VERY creaky floors above us. A call to Hotels.com did not rectify. AVOID.

Went to the Chestnut Inn tonight for what was billed as a “Truffle and Italian Wine Pairing Dinner”. Although, the meal itself was good, the wines were not as promised. 2 Italian, 2 French, 1 Spanish and 1 Portuguese. When I asked the head server who spoke briefly about each course about the wine selection, her response was it was late in the season and they paired with wines they had in stock. Why they couldn’t have ordered wines to match the theme is beyond me. Having put on many wine pairing meals in my career as a wine sales rep, this was very poor. I expected more from a prestigious Inn like the Chestnut. I wouldn’t have felt ripped off as we were if the wines had least be served as promised. Money grab on the inn’s account.

Needed a place to stop overnight while driving from Western NY to NYC, so I stopped at the Chestnut Inn on a whim. It's a really beautiful property on the lake, with warm vibes, and very friendly service at the front desk, bar, and restaurant. The room was spacious and well heated, comfortably furnished, with a well appointed bathroom and a bathrobe available. I'm thrilled that I found this place - a really wonderful haven. I'd recommend The Chestnut Inn to other visitors wholeheartedly.

This was not worth over $400 for one night. Upon arrival, everything seemed as described. But the room had a loud monstrosity of an air-conditioner in the middle of the sitting room. We couldn't hear each other speak. We were given a key to our room AND a key to the front door of the entire inn as all the staffing leaves at night. We stepped out for a wedding for a few hours, and when we returned around 7:30pm, there were cars packed in the lot and up the drive. There was no place to park at all. The front door to the Inn was wide open, the porch, deck, and sitting lobby were filled with people who were obviously partying. Even though we were paying guests, we had zero access to relax and enjoy the lake or the Inn. After a few hours more, the loud party parted in the most obnoxious drunk
