The Black Lantern Resort & Campground

It was 48° in our cabin when we arrived. 🥶 It was very cold due to previous people not knowing how the propane fireplace works. That being said, the owner was amazing at making sure we were doing well and that we had done everything we could to get the place warmed up quickly. We got a late checkout for our troubles which gave us another opportunity to snowshoe. I loved the little art installations along the trails. It was a very nice little getaway even if we froze a tiny bit along the way. 😅

Our family of three spent a week in cabin Eleanor. I have never experienced such a well-stocked rental. Annie has thought of EVERYTHING you could possibly need during your stay--linens, kitchen supplies (including coffee, seasonings, dishes, utensils, cookware, etc.) toiletries, games, books, puzzles, DVDs . . . I could go on and on. There is no TV service, but both TVs in the cabin have DVD players. We spent many hours in the cabin watching movies, playing board games, doing jigsaw puzzles, and just relaxing. It was actually really nice to be forced to "unplug" for a week, as there is no wireless and cell phone service can be iffy. We spent one afternoon kayaking on the lake, which was really fun. Our family likes taking trips to new places to enjoy the areas at and around the campground. We had 2 RV sites and reserved one of the cabins for our parents, kids and grandkids to join us. The RV sites have plenty of room to spread out and your neighbors aren’t 10 feet away like many RV campgrounds. The Eleanore cabin was great for our family members who didn’t have camping equipment. The owners/hosts of the campground had excellent communication and worked hard to make the campground and cabins a fun and inviting environment. It is a short drive to the headwaters of the Mississippi River. The small lake is great to kayak or canoe with very clear water compared to what we are used to in Iowa. I would highly recommend visiting if you want to unplug, and get away from the regular day to day

This place is absolutely stunning, super easy check in and out. Really quite, tons of activities and trails. Owners are extremely nice. Will definitely be coming back!

My husband and I stayed in Eleanor four nights in April 2015. The cabin is so perfect, warm, inviting, well-appointed. Everything we needed was there, including linens. The gas fireplace was so nice! We enjoyed driving our golf cart on all the trails, walking in the woods and canoeing. Annie was so kind and accommodating. This was the most relaxing vacation ever!
