We stayed for one night at the Atherton after a train ride on the coalbrookdale line. It was a wonderful overnight get away. The remodeled inn is absolutely beautiful. All the amenities of a big hotel and the small personal touches of visiting friends or family. We had a wonderful time. Service was lovely checking ourselves in with codes. Management/owner was responsive and attentive. Our room was clean and despite the coldest of nights with big old building it was warm and cozy inside. We enjoyed a game of chess in the common area which was also beautifully decorated.
The Atherton Inn is the wonderful old home of the Boyer Family, converted to an inn with large, comfortable, and clean rooms. The sitting rooms on the main floor are well-appointed and inviting, with a baby grand player piano accompaniment. Brenda has supplied the “kitchen” with goodies and coffee/tea available at all times.
Our room (#5) was Exceptional. We were going on the Colebrookdale train for a New Years event. This was the perfect place in relation to the train.(walking distance) The facility is almost breath taking with original mill work, and modern touches. We were so happy we were able to stay here. Awsome!
The rooms are amazing, attention to detail is a 10. Within walking distance to train and restaurants. The auto/transportation museum is worth a look The Inn is very welcoming. Two rooms to hang out and catch up with friends. The help yourself kitchen is well stocked. You will not b disappointed!
We were excited to stay at the Atherton Inn for Valentine’s Day after booking a special dinner on the local train. I had confirmed our slightly early check-in time several weeks in advance, and the owner assured me the room would be ready upon arrival. When we arrived at the agreed time (3:20pm after being told 3pm was fine), the bed was unmade from the prior guest and towels were on the bathroom floor. We were unable to locate staff on site and had to call the numbers provided in the welcome email. To the owner’s credit, she acknowledged the mistake and had the room cleaned while we were out. However, arriving to an unclean room — especially on a special occasion and at a premium holiday rate — was disappointing and impacted the overall experience. We hope this was an isolated incident
