THE 1896 House Inn and Country Lodgings

I wanted to like this hotel, honestly. The folks at the front desk were trying hard. But it started with us booking a King Suite and being checked into a regular room. I was told that this room was no longer available. I don't think I should have to come tell them that a regular room and an oversized King Suite are two different things. When we got in, there was no heat. Many efforts were made (we had several engineers in our party) but no heat. We brought this up to them and asked for space heaters and blankets. We were in for a wedding, when we came back there were space heaters but no blankets. Please note at least four of our rooms had no heat (one of them, when the heat was turned on it went to another room in our party). At midnight we shut off the heaters because they aren't safe a

Positive: I liked the home style atmosphere with solid wood furniture and checkered curtains. The room was comfortably large. Negative: I thought I was booking a room in the Inn and expected a Victorian theme with community sitting areas.

Very nice place beautiful area relaxing setting, rooms are cozy and comfy staff is very friendly and helpful the food & drinks are amazing. A great get away from the normal busy noisy life would definitely recommend and come back to again.

We've stayed here twice, in 2013 and 2017. Unfortunately, this place is nothing like it used to be. Everything is run down. I feel the bedding was clean, but the mattress was awful. One of the two chairs in the room needs to be taken out and thrown away. Our friends had to call and ask for coffee and cups, which were delivered promptly. That's the only plus I can give. Really disappointed in the current condition of 1896 House buildings/rooms.

Both of the inside & screen doors were difficult to shut-had to lift/slam. Outlets need updated-one at window was only a 2-prong plug, no fridge or microwave, wifi constantly dropping signal. Room itself was spacious, bed fairly comfy, nice setting, quiet area other than being right on a main road. Decent for the price, but definitely needs access to at minimum a fridge in case guests have medical needs that require refridgerating items! Also NO room phone, & phone signal limited/nonexistant (at least Verizon networks) so be prepared for call difficulties!
