Sunset Lodge

This place was VERY clean. Seems to be newly remodeled, vinyl flooring, newly painted, updated walk-in shower. The beds were clean and very comfortable. Very reasonable rates. It was close to the road but the traffic noise didn't hinder our sleep. The staff that checked us in was very friendly and gave us several places to eat, not just the restaurant next door, even though that's where we ended up eating. The Family Inn Restaurant had very friendly wait staff and the food was great. We would definitely stay here again.

This was such a sweet surprise for an easy overnight stay in Escanaba. As the pictures show, this is an “old fashioned” roadside hotel. The only negative was hearing the traffic at night. Happily, there is not a stop light/stop sign nearby - so there were no sounds of cars/trucks braking or revving up, just steady traffic passing by. And the rooms were great - absolutely squeaky clean, 4 differing firmness pillows on each bed, so you could use your favorite (just like the Hampton); and a nice soft duvet comforter. The bathroom seemed to be newly remodeled - nice tile in the shower; and was also squeaky clean. We were there on a 3 degree temperature night, and the heat worked just fine. You take your chances with these small "mom and pop" places along the highways in the UP, but we lucked out with this one. Very friendly staff, VERY clean rooms (we stayed twice - once on the way downstate and once on the way back home). We especially appreciated the room with 3 beds - those are hard to find but it was just what we were looking for. In one of our rooms the bathroom shower was very tiny but in the next one, there was a large updated tub/shower. Glad we found this place, great job Sunset Lodge!

After staying here 2 years in a row, we were unable to find room rates and little availability. When calling to find out rates for reference, we were hung up on not once, but twice. I will take my business elsewhere. We liked the small business vibe and met friendly people, but guess we won't be returning since we can't get answers to our questions.
