Quiet, out of the way. Arrived there right after two days of rain so 4 wheel drive was needed but easily done. Only saw one other camper, fishing was ok but scenery and quiet was spectacular. Will be back.
Off road camping and cheapest I know of close to lake powell. Dispersed in the desert is how it feels because of the terrain. Do not take a rental low clearance car here because of sand and not paved routes. Budget friendly for twenty something explorers. Would be good for any star gazing events. Only pit toilets with in walking distance. Boat ramps are not close; shore fishing access only with a license. You pass the parking lot with dumpsters on your way in. Brown signs blend in with the desert.
The lake level is really low so you aren’t actually camping at the campground. High clearance vehicles are best for driving down to the shore. This is primitive camping with no hookups. There are some scattered outhouses. The water is always so warm and inviting. It can get windy so be prepared and keep your gear secure always. I’d recommend not leaving an awning unattended. There are no trees and it will get really hot in the summer. Remember to get your watercraft inspected when you leave. The invasive muscles can spread to the other lakes and reservoirs and nobody wants that please. Have fun, wear a life jacket and stay hydrated!
The roads were not bad when we came out, no 4x4 needed, people have trailers out here. If you don’t have a boat, the area is a little lack luster. We are from Vegas and realized we drove over 7 hours to camp at something that looks like lake mead. The bathrooms are at high water mark, so you are either near the water or near a bathroom, but not both. With a boat, you can get to some pretty canyons though.
I was the only one in the upper section of the ground and it was perfect! Water is crazy low this year but still wasn’t too long of a drive to the marina to put the kayak in. Do not hike down the gorge next to the camp to the water! There is a lot of quick sand! Little to to no shade. Definitely recommend having 4 wheel drive. The deeper you onto the grounds the rougher it gets. Bathrooms weren’t in best shape and super full but happy to have somewhere with a door to sit! All in all I Plan on being back!
