South of the Border Motor Inn

It's a great (but old and slightly run down) tourist trap. Lots of shopping and restaurants. Bathrooms were super clean (there was an attendant). We didn't spend the night but there are rooms and camping options. Checking out at one of the gift shops took longer than shopping but I think they were training a new cashier?

I'd give 0 stars if I could! I made a reservation for the honeymoon sweet to get here then she wants to say all kinds of stipulations and if that's the case they should've mentioned it when I reserved it considering I said I was staying with my father and I was sleeping on the couch to get here and all of a sudden it's another story! Oh and as far as a non smoking room my room stinks like cigarettes 🚬 disgusting never again will I be staying here and if I wasn't in the car since early as hell this morning trust me I was going to the next hotel up. Stay at a BEST WESTERN NOT THIS NASTY SOUTH OF THE BORDER

We have stopped here for a night or two since the 1980s during our trips to the Carolinas. When the Kids were small they had a blast there. The last few times I noticed they are not keeping up with the general maintenance. Quite a few of the neon lights are not working and the hotel has some issues also. the glass shower doors are not fully on tracks and if you are not careful it could drop into the shower and break. I know it is hard to get help these days but there seemed to be enough people there so repairs could be made. That being said I will continue to stop from time to time as We have fond memories of the way it used to be.

Yes, it's campy and needs a little polish but it's a fun place to stop and stretch your legs. You never have to wait on line for the restroom. The gift shops have lots of stuff to waste your money on. All the billboards keep you amused as you ride through the Carolinas on I-95.

I only went there because I was close after a friend's funeral in a nearby town. I just stopped by to pick up a couple whoopie cushions, some for gifts and one to use. The whoopie cushions they have are real rubber, made in the PROC, bit still perfect sounding real rubber whoopie cushions. If you wet the opening, they even sound a little juicy. When my kids were small, they enjoyed them immensely! The cushions produced giggles, then laughter until tears when grandparents sat on one, or they caught mom unaware. For under $3 American, this is awesome fun! The cute goth girl checking me out did a splendid job!
