This small primitive camp area on the Buffalo River is a pretty nice area. The camp sites aren't on the water but really close. We got there Friday afternoon and there were only two of the five spots left. The lower area was full of a large group of families with children. They were having fun and were loud during the day but quieted down in the evening. The canoe rental companies use this as a drop off area for the float down to Buffalo Point so you have to watch for them pulling trailers down the narrow road. There were several vehicles parked close to the camp sites that were people making multi day float trips so parking may be a problem. There is a big gravel bar on the river here and a bluff nearby. The fishing was good here of you are interested in that.
Primitive campground with a clean pit toilet. The best part it’s free and few people come here. Worst part are the canoe outfitters that park vehicles in your campsite. A little improvement with a bobcat would make the campsites better. The drive there is beautiful. If you’re the type that needs their creature comforts,,, don’t visit.
Kayak trip from Grinders Ferry, ended at South Maumee. 16 miles great 2 day float. South Maumee was a great take out spot. You have to drive down 3 miles of gravel road to access, which can be a slow drive if you have a trailer.
The camp sites were far from the water and out in the sun. Not on of my favorite stops on the river. Nice bluffs, but facing the wrong direction for shade while sitting on the river bank.
The final destination on our canoe trip! Was ready for some ice cold water, nearest store 20 miles in opposite direction from where we were headed. Took an hour and a half after floating for two days to make it to nearest gas station on our route. Finally got water! Better be gased up. Be sure you have all supplies and extra supplies this is way out from any civilization and pray you don't have any emergencies.
