Amazing stay. 2nd time to south branch. Rocky beach , bring water shoes if you are a tenderfoot. Amazing hikes from mountains to hidden pools and waterfalls. Great paddling. Some leaches. but prefer leaches over ticks any day.

We loved staying here. It was a well maintained campground and had great views during the day and night.

Stunning views and a peaceful, quiet campground deep in North Baxter. Camp sites could be a bit farther apart (we always think that) but they do have a couple walk in sites for extra privacy. Boats for rent, and many excellent lightly trafficked hiking options very close by for all skill levels. Strict quiet hours, and no RVs, perfect! Bring the bug spray and bug hats/shirts and you'll be fine.

Biggest campground in Baxter. Lots of people on a September weekday. Highly recommend the Traveler Loop, one of the best hikes in all of Maine.

This is one of the most beautiful spots in the world. Primitive car camping, no running water, no power, no cell service. Firewood for sale, canoes and kayaks for rent. Hike from here to do the Traveler loop (best hike in BSP) as you walk the rim of an extinct volcano. Rhyolite is great hiking surface. Hike the Black Cat loop for views of the Travelers. Quiet and peaceful.
