Smith Mountain Campground

Stayed here a few nights in our way home. Only place we could find with a spot available over July 4th weekend. It was a bit further off I-81 than we would’ve liked but well worth the drive - especially if you are staying more than a few nights. A great surprise was they had live music in their pavilion for the holiday weekend! Very quiet, well kept family owned campground. Owners were very nice.

First of all, I must say that the owner, Steven, and the host, Jeff, are some of the nicest people I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. Those two made our stay worth every penny. The campground itself is always kept neat and clean. It's very family/kid friendly. Pets are welcome and are expected to be kept leashed and picked up after. A laundry facility was recently added. I never used the shower/restroom facilities, but I'd almost guarantee them to be spotless. Wifi is also available throughout the campground. The location is near the lake and two public boat ramps. A public hunting area is just down the road. There are a few places to eat and a couple of stores nearby to purchase essentials. I would absolutely recommend this place to most anyone. I hope to be back some day.

We had a fun and fantastic stay at Smith Mountain Campground for six months out of the year! The campground is peaceful, clean, and very comfortable. The sites are spacious, the views are beautiful, and the atmosphere is relaxing whether you’re there for a weekend or a long-term stay. It’s a wonderful place to unwind, enjoy nature, and make great memories. We absolutely look forward to coming back again and would highly recommend Smith Mountain Campground to anyone looking for a comfortable and enjoyable camping experience.

Smith Mountain Campground is very well kept. This is our 2nd time staying here and we haven’t been disappointed. The camp host is always available in just mins for any needs you have. Bath house is always clean and we love the private bathroom with showers. The only thing I would recommend is to add a small bench in each room for clothes to be put on while showering and then to use for putting shoes on after your shower. The grounds are well kept and our grand kids have fun on the playground and we enjoyed walking the trail thru the woods.

Great place to camp. The bathrooms/showers were always spotless. Other campers were courteous and quiet, and the place has a good family atmosphere. It's also very close to Penhook boat ramp and the town of Penhook, which has a well stocked small grocery store less than 5 minutes away. I will definitely return here next time I'm at SML.
