Shaw's Hiker Hostel

This place is an amazing oasis on the Appalachian Trail. My friend and I had just finished the southbound wilderness 100 when we arrived at Shaws. We were greeted by the owners who were amazingly accommodating! We rented a yurt for two nights and had breakfast there two mornings… The breakfast was amazing! I would highly recommend this place for anybody traveling through the area.

This was my wife and I's third stay at Shaw's (I am a section hiker on the A.T.) and first with new owners Jared and Kim (Poet and Hippie Chick). The experience was excellent, a marvelous hiker hostel in the last trail town before the 100-Mile Wilderness. It's mostly communal bunk rooms with a few private rooms, shared but clean bathrooms. The breakfast was good, the service (shuttle and information) excellent. Poet has a well-stocked gear and supply store in the adjacent garage which is a real benefit to hikers. Highly recommend if you're overnighting in Monson and are hiking the trail or just want to immerse yourself in it.

5 stars to Shaw’s hiker hostel. I was there with an injury and they made me feel comfortable and rested. Worker’s checked on me and asked how was I doing daily. Breakfast and service was very good. Cost was what I expected for a very busy hostel. I would definitely recommend staying there.

If you want a hiker experience with a great outfitter and resupply, Shaw's is it! This place is rich in the history and traditions of the trail. Poet and Hippie Chic and staff are amazing! The breakfast is a must-have treat. Who doesn't like blueberry cairns?

I did not stay here. I was helping an AT thru hiker friend arrange supply drops for 100 mile wilderness section of AT. He also did his laundry and showered there coming off Carrutunk section and going directly onto 100 mile section without overnigh stay in town.
