Sand Hollow Campground

It was close enough to the gorge yet far enough away to not be crazy. We enjoyed playing in the river during the day before driving to the gorge for the show. It will accommodate a small camper or tent and other than a bout of traffic was very relaxing. We will be there again next year.

In the Columbia Basin with river access and a nearby designated swimming area. Campsites are close together, but very well maintained and easily accessible from the highway. No potable water, but there are restrooms that were clean and seemed to be well maintained. Can be a bit windy, but the views, river access, convenience and low price made up for any of the other concerns for me.

It is a nice day-use area for swimming or possibly having a picnic, but spending the night was a different story. With this being a recreational area and not just a campsite, you will get people coming and going all night, which makes it extremely difficult to sleep or feel safe especially with people constantly walking through the individual sites. A lot of ground in the area is sand, and it gets extremely windy at night. Unfortunately, while trying to sleep, having your mouth and eyes full of sand does not help. I would think twice about camping here, but It might be nice for just the day.

This was a very nice dispersed camping area. It was a hot weekend with fire bans. So not many people in the campground which was awesome. It's pack it in, pack it out. No hook ups or dump station. There is picnic tables with gravel parking. And road noise from the highway near by.

My initial reaction was that the campsite and area were absolutely beautiful, we settled in, explored a little, and then got ready to lay down for the night. There were lots of people who were letting their kids run around pretty late and riding dirt bikes past the campsites. I understand this of course, kids will be kids. Then the wind set in. It felt like our tent was going to snap in half the entire night, super bad wind. Hence the name “Sand” Hollow, there was sand flying into the tent every time the wind blew, we constantly had sand in our eyes and faces. There was also a ton of vehicle noise and light coming off of the highway. I’m sure if you were in a campsite a little further back, this wouldn’t be as much of an issue.
