Very nice beach view campsite - both sunset and night moon are wonderful. Restrooms between each section of campsites. 4 rooms plus 2 sinks and a outside shower tower. Be wearing that not all the path can reach the beach and it takes another 10-15 walk down from the beach parking to the beach. Parking is very limited ( about 10-12 cars).
This was a great place to go camping especially if you’re a person that needs to fall asleep to sounds. I actually enjoyed the sounds of the freeway and the occasional train that would pass as well as the sounds of the bugs and ocean. The toilets were so clean! There were places to wash my feet! Took off a star bc the walk to the beach far and the trail/hike closest to us eroded. So we can only view the beach from above. I’d definitely come back!
The Bluffs Campground is a mix of good and bad. The good being the proxemity to the beautiful beach, a short hike down the trail, and the view from the bluffs over the ocean. The sites are more pavement than dirt, each having a fire ring and table. The bad being the filthy stinking restrooms, the absence of hot shower facilitites, the constant noise of the 5 fwy and the occasional roar of passing trains. No water at any of the campsites, so come prepared. Some modest upgrades are sorely needed. The location is beautiful however, and this could be a premier camping/rv campground if time, money and a plan were ever brought to bare.
This place is great for surfing, camping, seasonal wildflower viewing, day trips and more. The beach looks amazing while nervously standing atop the crumbling bluffs and the bluffs are an aesthetic bonus while down on the beach. This place, like many beach locations, can get busy, so book or arrive early. The camp sites are perfect for couples or small groups. Note there is not much space between camp sites so be prepared to be respectful of your neighbors if you are camping over night. Or be prepared to get to know your neighbors pretty well if they are not respectful of the close proximity. Wood fires are ok. Bathrooms are water wise. Surfers are abundant. Get out there and enjoy!
Considered Primitive camping but this is a hidden jewel. Been camping here since I was a kid. People will talk about freeway sounds or the trains... These can be background to what is a great place to relax and camp. What is old Pacific Coast Highway serves as mostly level spots for RV's and Trailers. Most sites have some dirt to pitch tents on. Staff is friendly and the bathrooms are maintained daily. There are three trails to the beach with Trail 6 being the longest. The bluffs can provide amazing views. Note: Watch out for the ants... Demetrious Earth (DE) is excellent at preventing their entry to your food storage. It is organic and non toxic.
