Royal Bear Lodge

We arrived to a driveway that was unshoveled of which we could easily slip and fall in the snow. The TV was was not working. There was no heat in the bathroom. The internet did not work, so we had to throughout to go into town in order to connect to the internet. this was a MAJOR inconvenience. I told the owner, Brian Hammer, that we had no internet service and that he needed to pay his bill. Brian Hammer said if I was unhappy, we should leave. I looked in the area and could not find another place to say and was literally hundreds of miles away. I was stuck. Brian Hammer, the Owner, REFUSED, to give me a discount for our troubles. We stayed at Royal Bear Lodge in Arroya Seco. The Owner was Brian Hammer. We told him about the driveway not shoveled due to snow, the TV not working properly, the heat in the bathroom not working, the internet not working. He suggested we leave.

We loved it here!! Hard to rate number of stars for a place like this, because it doesn't really fit into that type of property category. We went for a quick 3 day ski trip to Taos and we were beyond happy we chose this place. Great location in Arroyo Seco close to the slopes and close to Taos. This little town isn't much but there is everything you need. We did hit the grocery store in Taos on our way there so we had some food for the house upon arrival. There is a organic foods market about a one minute walk from the house however and it is a really neat place that also serves some great coffee and sandwiches and breakfast burritos as well. In April, I booked this unit for my family and I for a couple of nights in late December through VRBO. I spoke with Bradley, the manager, let him know that we would be bringing our family dog and he confirmed our reservation and said he was looking forward to having us. Bradley notified us October 15 that he can no longer honor our reservation, obviously because he found someone who would pay more. This leaves my family and I not being able to find any other accommodations due to the fact that we have to bring our small family dog who is 16 years old and will likely be enjoying one of its last and only family vacations. We have already spent around $1,000 on transportation from Texas but Bradley does not seem to care.

We made our reservations and paid through Travelocity in June of 2017 for our January, 2018 stay. We received a call from Bradley 3 days before our scheduled arrival and all was good. The day before arrival Bradley got a better offer and cancelled our stay. Apparently, someone scheduled for 7 nights instead of our 3 nights, and it wasn't through Travelocity, so he'd make more money on the stay. We were about 4 hours away when we confirmed reservations elsewhere. ||Travelocity wanted confirmation from Bradley before we could get our money back and that happened the same day as our arrival at another B&B that Bradley called in order to get rid of us as problems. Travelocity will return our money in 'one or two billing cycles,' so we should eventually see our $600 plus one of these days.
