Campgrounds are well kept. Our site was next to the river, so we were sheltered a bit from road traffic. No access to lake from campground, you gotta head to boat launch area, just a short walk. Lake shore can get windy. We stayed two nights, I fished a bit but no luck, water was pretty low, but nice for taking a dip.
The layout of the campground is tightly packed but all sites seem easily accessible. We were in a pull through site with a pop-up camper and a tent. We had plenty of space in ours but some sites are very small. You have to check in with the camp host when you arrive. He's super friendly so don't hesitate going up to his door. Firewood is available for $8 a bundle. We were there 7/18 to 7/20 and we could still have a campfire. That may change at anytime due to the fire hazard being very high. The lake is next to the campground but from most sites, you can't even see it. Try and book on the edge right next to the water. Site 409 has a trail that leads to the lake where you can more easily get to the water. Vault toilets were clean and well maintained. I'd suggest brining your own toilet pape
Park maintained well, very peaceful setting...Love the PNW even in fall rain and all.
Surprisingly peaceful nights sleep next to a busy street. We were a walk-in on a Friday and snagged site #411, next to the water. There is a path leading to a small beach. The path is steep but the view of the glacial fed lake to an intimate beach is worth the descent. Our site includes electrical 30 and 50 amp, picnic table and fire ring. The entire camp ground is clean and during our stay fellow campers were friendly and respectfully quiet after 9pm. Our Camp host Dan is friendly, helpful and suggested places to eat in the neighborhood. Next time we visit Mount Rainier, we will stay here again.
Stopped at the day use area to take in the sunset and let the dogs roam a bit. The sunset made our little adventure of the day worth it. The maintenance man or caretaker (not sure of his title) pulled in right behind us and got straight to work cleaning and restocking the public restrooms. He was kind and personable. The area was clean.
