The camp ground is right on the Cowlitz River, and right next to the freeway. The river is beautiful, and the freeway is noisy. Also, although they allow dogs, they are not dog friendly. It feels like they allow dogs more out of necessity than desire. We took our dog down to the river to swim (it was off season, we were far from the camp ground and there was NO ONE around) and we were reprimanded to keep our dog on a leash. The owners seemed to have a lot of anxiety about dogs in general (we have a very laid back golden retriever, who doesn't leave our side.) They also do not have any sort of designated "off leash area", which is unusual for camp spots like this. If you are traveling with a dog, you might want to look elsewhere. In Washington, you cannot reserve camp at State Park same day you call. My surprise was I could here and even though we had a tent, we rented a cabin next to a river and enjoyed peace and quiet. There are limited cabin space, each having bunks and bed for sleeping as apposed to a tent. I saw a small heater, but no amenities except clean sheets on 5 beds with a picnic table outside the door. |The camp host, owner and her husband are delightful people and helped direct us when we had questions. We decided not to use our camp stove alternating between a restaurant close by for breakfast and a truck stop 1 mile away for dinner and snacks. There is an espresso place you can easily walk to. Bathrooms were cleaned everyday. Hot showers huge plus. We got a tent camping spot right on the river. It was really nice. Unfortunately it is towards the peak hot season so there were wasps flying everywhere. Owners came and was killing the underground wasp nest about 20 yards from our tent spot. Great work. If you are tenting, please bring a wasp trap so they wont bug ya when you eat or chill. Scenery was nice. It is next to the free way near a metal freeway bridge so it was loud when semis came. But you should know that when you rent the place. Had a great time wading in the icy cold river.

Advertises that they have laundry facilities but will not let you wash bedding or wash anything at all if you have dogs. Would have been nice if they told us that over the phone before we stayed here. It's also very close to the freeway and noisy.

Beautiful place and run by beautiful people. Loved waking up and being able to walk alongside the river. Our host was exceptionally welcoming despite my mess up on the directions and our time of arrival being far past the office hours. Would definitely recommend and my wife and I will be returning the next chance we get!
