Very nice campground! The camp host Les was great! Very friendly and keeps the bathrooms very clean. It's a small campground, no water, no electricity. You can take your RV there as well. My parents 32 foot fit fine. The sites are small and large and well spaced out so your neighbors aren't too close. The scenery is stunning. The Ochoco forest is beautiful. A mix of ponderosa pines, white pines, firs and deciduous trees. The campground is pretty high up, a hair over 4700 ft. If you're sensitive to altitude, you might take a day to adapt. There was a fire that ran through the forest 4 years ago and hit the campground. You can still see some of the burned trees in the campground. It's in the high desert, so be ready for high temperature and dry air. There is a lot of shade in the campground
Spent Memorial Day Weekend at site 23. Some sites were a little small so I would avoid bringing any big tents especially on the weekends. The bathrooms were super nice and clean. There is also a host on site which I loved for safety. Minus the cars and birds this place is silent, and the stars at night are awesome would highly recommend. Price was $20 a night and pass discounts for 50% off were available.
Ochoco pass campground. Well taken care of site with welcoming host who kept the bathrooms immaculate. We were driving through during unprecedented heat so this campground was perfect as it was right near the pass. As you descend from this pass going east , you enter a large burned area as you drop in elevation. There wasn’t a lot more elevation gain as you head east so we were glad to stop here. Also we were able to go to the John day fossil beds National monument which was fascinating.
Probably more a stopover than a destination for most people, but a pleasant campground. Nearby mountain bike trails made it an attractive location for me. Right next to the highway, so expect some traffic noise. Pit toilets, potable water and trash bins available onsite. $20/night
Great campground, convenient location right off the highway. We arrived around 5pm on a Saturday and snagged the last spot. Close to the highway so you hear traffic passing but it didn’t bother us. The campground is situated so we didn’t see any headlights from the highway at night. Toilets were clean and well maintained. The grounds were very clean and sites were spread so there was plenty of space in between.
